Harlow Construction

Family Owned and Operated Since 1949

Harlow Construction Ltd. was founded in 1949 by the late Allister G. Harlow. When he started the company he was the sole employee along with his two horses May and June. He would cut and haul wood for anyone that was in need of his services. By his twenty-first birthday, he decided that he would much rather excavate land so he saved to purchase his first backhoe, loader and dump truck. With this Harlow Construction was founded with its head office originally being located in Allister’s home in Sable River. As work progressed and Allister became more well known in the construction industry the head office was moved to a larger location on King Street in Shelburne to accommodate the larger demand for Allister’s construction services. Fast forward fifty years and Harlow Construction still stands on that very same property, with a few modifications of course. Harlows is still a family-owned business with Allister’s sons Rob and Jeff running show. The original office was replaced in 2009 with a larger building that could store parts and equipment needed to keep the business running. The newest upgrade to Harlow Construction is the cement plant that was installed in the summer of 2011 and will be ready to service Shelburne County and surrounding area with ready-mix cement by Fall 2011. Harlow’s has not forgotten their roots and is still an extremely community and family-oriented business that gives back where and when it can.
